The Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives partners with state and local agencies, as well as The White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives to provide a central point of reference for funding and partnership opportunities. I visit their website at least once a quarter to find out what opportunities are available for nonprofits.

  • SOFI - The Strengthening Ohio Families Initiative:

    • The Strengthening Ohio Families Initiative (SOFI) expands, enhances and builds community capacity to serve vulnerable youth, ex-offenders and their families and mentors and counsels couples to sustain and promote healthy marriages. Our grant programs include Feed Ohio- a summer food program, Mentoring Vulnerable Youth, The Fatherhood Initiative and Prisoner Reentry.

  • Feed Ohio:

    • The Feed Ohio grants will enable summer food program sponsors to establish new Summer Food Service Program sites in communities of need. The program provides funding in two areas: site infrastructure and programmatic capacities.

  • Mentoring Vulnerable Youth:

    • The Mentoring Vulnerable Youth program provides funding for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)-eligible mentoring and wrap-around services to one of three priority sub-populations: homeless youth, foster care youth, and juvenile ex-offenders. Wrap-around services are defined as social and health services such as GED preparation, tutoring, life skills training, etc. that further enhance a mentee’s ability to succeed.

  • Healthy Marriage Initiative:

    • GOFBCI has been awarded a five-year demonstration grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to encourage and support marriages and two-parent families in Ohio’s African-American community. In collaboration with five community organizations, we will deliver comprehensive, research-based Healthy Marriage services and will promote divorce reduction programs aimed at strengthening marriages in the African American community. Regional partners will utilize the Basic Training for Black Couples and related curricula to sustain marriages with a two-year goal of providing training to 1,600 couples.

  • Ohio Fatherhood Initiative:

    • Ohio Fatherhood Initiative (OFI) grants will assist organizations working to promote strong, healthy relationships between fathers and their children. GOFBCI will partner with faith-based and community organizations throughout Ohio who work to ensure fathers have the resources they need to play a positive role in the lives of their children. GOFBCI is also working to establish the Commission on Fatherhood which will ultimately administer this grant program.

  • Reentry Initiative:

    • GOFBCI is currently funding comprehensive family case management and reentry support to formerly incarcerated persons, their adult family members, and their children. Our goals include ending the incidence of intergenerational criminal offending and reducing the likelihood those adult ex-offenders will recidivate.

Ohio Benefits Bank

The Ohio Benefit Bank (OBB) is a web-based computer program to connect low and moderate-income Ohioans with access to work supports such as tax credits and public benefits. If your mission encompasses linking people to support systems, you might want to become an official Ohio Benefits Counseling Site.
